Collection 4 – Top Pick
It was a May day wedding in France at Domaine de Villot. It was very rainy and it was little cold. Despite the bad weather, Yasmira and Donovan beamed with happiness. They were a very endearing couple, she is just like she is in the picture, very emotional. Donovan is more shy. It makes for a nice combination.
This image is taken from a series at the end of the morning getting ready preparations. At first, I was further away and not really in front of the bride to capture the atmosphere. She seemed really happy with a big smile on her face and suddenly I don’t know what happened in her mind but she started crying with big tears rolling down her cheeks. It was very moving. I can only assume all her emotions came flooding through.
I gradually moved in front of her and very close so I could capture the photograph with the dramatic spirit of the moment, a bit cinematic. Her attitude was so amazing…What a moment! There was no real difficulty with capturing the shot except that the space was very narrow and not very aesthetic. I immediately knew that I had captured a beautiful picture. I did not look at it so I could stay focused. I saw it the next day at home. Yasmira and Donovan love this picture! I love black & white for these kind of photos, so without hesitation I took that direction, keeping only the essential–The emotions.
I used a Nikon D4 and a 50mm ART at full aperture. Shooting this image was very simple. I often use my 24mm because it is perfect for these situations and context but when the tears started to flow I changed to my 50mm to isolate her expression.
