This was one of several weddings I’ve done this year at the Grand Hotel in Brighton - the hotel is a real Brighton landmark and known for its beautiful, grand staircase.
The Bride in this photo, Sarah was getting ready with her 3 Bridesmaids in one of the suites on the 3rd floor, and I really wanted to capture a classic and elegant shot of them on their way out. I’d done a reccy to the venue before the wedding day and knew which angle would be good to shoot from, to emphasise the grandness of the interior.
I don’t set up many shots, so with this one, I simply asked them all to walk down the stairs, one by one, and for Sarah to walk, a few paces behind and to look over at me when she was walking. As you can see, her timing was excellent! I shot this on my D4s with a 24-70mm at its widest 24mm as I needed a super wide angle to capture as much of the staircase as possible. The image was processed in LR using Silver Effex pro 2 which I always use for B&W conversions.
I much prefer images that capture a moment than set up shots, and this image was exactly what I had in mind!
