I decided to stay later at this wedding having seen that the sky had the potential to be dramatic and colourful as dusk fell. I kept checking the lighting and sky through a couple of test shots before I took the bride and groom outside for the final shot. In preparation for the shot I’d already mentioned to the couple two hours before that the shot may be a possibility and may have to call on them at the last minute.
One of the biggest challenges was the timing of the shot to capture the colours of the sky as it was changing so quickly. Ihad to have the position of the couple and composition decided before I called on them.
Chose the composition and setting for the shot as it had a great view down through the family and provided a maximum expanse of sky. It also wasn’t too far from the marquee where the wedding reception was taking place.
For this shot I used Nikon D3s , 16-35mm lens, iso 800 F7.1 1/160
Post processing involved darkening shadows for the silhouette, adding contrast and some saturation.
I knew the shot was going to look great and even in camera it had impact. When I showed the couple the preview on camera after taking it they were so excited and couldn’t wait to see the processed version.
