My style is usually reportage and I don't really execute many posed shots in the services I offer unless I am specifically asked by the client. The image is immediately after a group shot when all the guests were dispersing. I saw this shot in my head straight away, with all the people along the skyline. The shapes and positions caught my eye and I thought that a silhouette shot would be perfect for this moment.
Luckily I had my 35mm lens on the camera which was perfect to frame the scene including the sky. When I captured this image I had already thought it would be a black and white silhouette.
I made a few adjustments in Lightroom, making the image black & white, removing the blue sky. Closed the blacks and opened up the whites in the image. I then removed the dark parts of the sky with the brush tool.
The camera I used was the Nikon D700 with a Nikon 35mm prime lens at 1.4.
