Cromatica Wedding Photography
Most of the times a wedding photographer hasn't got the perfect light and space to take the amazing photos that people expect from him/her. This was the case here: a small, crowded, poorly lit beauty salon in a semi-basement.
My first reaction was fear, but I kept smiling :). My favorite lenses, 85 and 35mm seemed to be of no use there. I had to think outside the box. So I took a 24mm and went outside, hoping to find an interesting angle, use a reflection and then wait for something to happen. Sitting on the floor, I noticed I was not able to see very well through a string curtain, so I got in and moved the strings a bit. I went back outside and waited. I had the time to notice the bike reflected in the window and the people passing by.
Finally, the guy came outside the salon, passed by me and stopped in that doorway to drink his coke. I waited for the bride to do something and that was it. I knew I got a multi layered image that accurately reflected the atmosphere and was able to tell the story of that moment, with girls laughing and a politely bored guy waiting for them to get ready.
Experience finally taught me to wait.
Usual adjustments in post, contrast, curves and black and white processing.
