Wedding Photographer Devon Luna Wedding Photography shoots a wedding at Huntsham Court, United Kingdom
Real weddings from real wedding photographers & real couples around the world.
Tell us a little about yourself??We are Anna & Mike, a wedding photography team from the southwest of England but working all over the UK and beyond.
How do you think or would like people to describe you?As people, we are pretty easy going, but focused, driven and perceptive when at work.
Tell us a little bit about the wedding day?Up there as one of the best weddings we have ever attended, let alone photographed! Stuart and Rupesh are warm, friendly and funny, and we were genuinely honoured to have been there documenting their day for them.
How did you get into wedding photography?Anna - have been shooting weddings since 2006 after photographing a friends wedding and it went from there.
Mike - went along on a few with Anna initially to help with driving/light holding etc and started shooting a few to help out if timings were tight and turned out he was really good at it so has been shooting with Anna since 2013.
How long have you been a wedding photographer?I guess we answered that above!
Can you share how you've made your wedding photography business a success? Any mistakes you made along the way?By being open, seeing each wedding as a separate entity and always investing in learning, you can never know too much.
Mistakes - yes - timings, always be honest with your couples if you think their timings are out and they have expectations for you to fit everything they want into a tiny timescale, also, always be honest with your couples.
What do you think a bride or groom should be looking for and not looking for in terms of wedding photography packages?I think they just need to feel the images with their heart, look at loads of work from each photographer in all lighting conditions and seasons. A good photographer will excel in any situation, its easy to have a nice sunny portfolio of golden light portraits.
How do you advertise yourself and what for you has really worked?Since Luna started officially in 2008 we have pretty much survived from word of mouth, the rest is via our website. We barely advertise at all. We wouldn’t recommend magazine advertising to anyone, personally.
Why do you think people hire you?Hopefully because they love our work! Probably the fact we are so experienced helps too.
How many weddings do you average per year?37-40
Whose wedding would you love to shoot?Someone who rides in on a unicorn with the cats as wedding attendants, under a waterfall in Iceland.
If you were asked to shoot a destination wedding, where would you hope it would be?Iceland, or Madagascar.
What equipment do you have for a typical wedding day?5d 3’s 24 f1.4, 35 f1.4, 85 f1.2, 135 f2 - all Canon L’s. Flashes, triggers and video lights.
What is the most challenging thing about a wedding.
Do you have an approach to a wedding? Not too much, each is as different as the couples.
Who or what inspires you?Light!
Best & Worst marketing idea so far?Best - we are yet to find! Word of mouth has always been great for us.
Worst - magazine.
If you weren't a photographer, what would you be?Mike would probably be a carpenter as thats what he did before - Anna, no idea, wedding photography is pretty ingrained at this stage!
Share your favourite image of the day and why?The light at Huntsham Court is incredible and the excitement of the moment just before the wedding is such a lovely and emotional time.
Do you have any goals for the future photography related or otherwise?Just to carry on as we are, and to shoot in Iceland but we are going there for our own honeymoon so thats close enough!
What do you think is key to being a successful wedding photographer?Flexibility, drive, an open mind, a tough spirit and a loving heart.
Are there any other wedding photographers whose work inspires you, can be a well know photographer or somebody you've stumbled across? There’s a big list! We are hugely inspired by James Rouse, Adam Johnson and Ross
Harvey, and Davina plus Daniel from Canada, Susan Stripling is also great and I love how much information she shares, she seems to have a passion for teaching. All are phenomenal and lovely people too.
Proudest moment so far. Photography related or otherwise?Being parents of an awesome little 4 year old, we were pretty proud when he started school recently! I (Anna) am also super proud of how great Mike has become in such a short space of time, we are loving working as a team.
