Today’s wedding photography spotlight feature is Bristol wedding photgrapher Martin Dabek. He shoots all over the UK and has notched up over 250 on his photography belt. He started shooting in 2010 and has never looked back.
He was wonderful to work with- he managed to work with all of our guests in an unobtrusive manner and everyone thought he was great!
Martin shoots mainly in Bristol, Somerset, Cotswolds and London and is proud to have won several industry awards over the many of his wedding photography years.
How did you get into wedding photography?
I trained as land surveyor and worked few years in this field. I didn’t enjoyed it very much so I quit the job and went backpacking for a year to South and Central America. In Mexico I photographed my first wedding for friends of mine and I loveed it! When I got back to Bristol I slowly built up my website and all went from there really.
What really gets you emotional when you’re shooting a wedding?
It’s hard to believe that after shooting so many weddings I still gets emotional, especially during the ceremony and speeches. At least I can hide my wet eyes behind my camera.
How do you put a couple at ease before and during their big day?
Don’t let the small stuff bother you on the wedding day. Something is not going to go exactly to plan and that’s okay. Just be yourself and don’t worry about the photos. The best photos come out when you are comfortable, relaxed, and trust your wedding photographer. Before the day I encourage my couples to get in touch as I love to help them out as much as possible. I believe that experienced wedding photographers are great wedding planners!
What is it about being a wedding photographer you love?
I love to meet new people and discover new places. Weddings are such a happy occasion and I just love to be part of it. I especially get extra excited when I photograph at venues that I’ve never photographed at before.
What is it about being a wedding photographer that you don’t love so much?
Admin work and time that I have to spend in front of computer.
What is your favourite part of the day?
Bride and Groom together time. That’s when the magic happens and emotions connect in a real sense. I also really like evening portraits, where you can get some creative/artistic shots.
Martin made us feel very relaxed and allowed us to enjoy our day without feeling like we spent the whole day posing for photos.
What tips would you give a couple on choosing a wedding photographer?
Check a wedding photographers sample wedding albums and clearly communicate what are you looking for regarding your wedding pictures.
Why do you think couples choose you?
My couples like my unobtrusive approach to wedding photography. The fact that I make them feel comfortable in front of camera and a have always smile on my face during the day. I guess great customer service before and after the wedding is a key.
What are you looking forward to and why?
In few days I’m going to photograph a wedding in Sorrento in Italy, so it should be fun. I’ll take my wife along and we are planning to chill for few days in Capri after the wedding to recharge our batteries before the summer weddings.
We would have no hesitation in recommending him to future clients and look forward to working with him in the future
